Panchayat

The ‘Azhoor Gramodharana Kendram’ (Azhoor Village Upliftment Centre), established in 1948 in the post-independence Thiru-Kochi State, later evolved into the Azhoor Panchayat. A committee headed by P.G. Kunjan was the first to be formed; it was he who donated the 10 cents of land for the construction of the Azhoor Grama Panchayat office building. The Centre was inaugurated on the 12th of Makaram, 1123 (Malayalam Era). Office operations initially began in a two-story building at Meda Junction, provided by M.M. Ismail for a nominal rent. In 1953, the first democratically elected administrative council of the Azhoor Panchayat assumed office.
