Administrative History

Azhoor is a panchayat located within the Pothancode Block of Chirayinkeezhu Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. It evolved from the Azhoor Village Upliftment Centre (Gramoddharana Kendram), which was established in 1948—following India's independence—within the erstwhile Thiru-Kochi State. P.G. Kunjan served as the president of the initial committee; the Azhoor Grama Panchayat office was constructed on a 10-cent plot of land donated by him. The office initially began operations at Meda Junction. The first elected administrative council assumed office in 1953, with V. Krishnan serving as its president. Nine wards were established in 1979. The terrain of the Azhoor Grama Panchayat slopes downwards from east to west towards sea level.
